5 Celebrities That Dig Crypto – Or At least Pretend To

Crypto seems to be popping up everywhere nowadays; bus stations, cringey television ads, your buddy at work who never stops talking about animal coin #231 that will “easily 100x”. Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past two years (who could blame you?), you’ve noticed an uptick in cryptocurrency showing up in more mainstream avenues.

The last few years has seen a rise in celebrities getting in on the action, but are celebrities jumping into crypto for the right reasons? Or is it just another way for them to profit on what’s trending?

#1 Floyd ‘Crypto’ Mayweather

Call me Floyd 'Crypto' Mayweather he said, standing in his matching pants and jacket(is that supposed to be some kind of 'I just got into crypto' getup.

Smart contracts for sports, they said!

Was it the revolution we all hoped for? Well, not really. The price plumetted to 0 along with Floyd Mayweather's reputation as a crypto businessman.

This wasn't the end, though.

In November 2018 Floyd Mayweather along with DJ Khaled, Mayweather agreed to pay a settlement of $750,000 with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for failing to disclose payments accepted from initial coin offerings, including a personal $100,000 check from cryptocurrency firm Centra Tech Inc.

"they are its first cases involving charges for violating rules on touting investments in so-called initial coin offerings, or ICOs." said the SEC.

As part of the settlement, Mayweather undertook to forgo any endorsement or promotional agreement with a securities participant for three years.

Now that's what I call a knockout from the SEC!

#2 Ashton Kutcher

Apparently, when Ashton Kutcher goes to the kitchen, it's not to make himself a bagel but to talk about a revolution in finance. Who knew?

Most famous for portraying Michael Kelso in the 70's show, colleagues of Ashton Kutcher actually say he's pretty smart!(He did portray Steve Jobs in the film of him after all).

He has his own venture capital firm and has investments in over 60 companies including ResearchGate, Lemonade, and Skype.

He created the TV series Punk'd also, making us wonder if this is some sort of joke(kidding).

No joke, Ashton continues to be serious about crypto - In July of 2021 Ashton and Mila pumped out over 10,000 NFTs for a venture they call "Stoner Cats".

#3 Mel B of the Spice Girls + Bitcoin = Profit?

You might remember Mel B as her time as a Spice Girl. But I'll tell you what she really really wants, and that's gains on her Bitcoin.

"Bitcoin unites my fans around the world using one currency" she said.

She was actually very early, too, accepting it for her music as early as 2013. She might not be as famous as David Beckham's other half, but her Bitcoin passion certainly has elevated her status to us!

In fact, some sources list her as the first mainstream pop artist to accept digital currencies. Big if true!

It's unknown exactly how much she has, but maybe we will see her on a future Whale List one day!

#4 Paris Hilton

Here's one you probably weren't expecting: Socialite Paris Hilton is launching her business in the Roblox metaverse.

That's not all, either. Although she entered the crypto space relatively late in 2021, she claims to have invested $1000 in bitcoin and ethereum way back.

She actually named her two dogs "Crypto Hilton" and "Ether Reum".

We're not sure exactly what Paris Hilton does with her time(I mean, she's not really an actor or anything) other than be rich and have media presence, so I guess she's googling crypto articles in her free time (Hi Paris if you see this!).

#5 Mark Cuban

Mark Cuban is perhaps best known as his role on Shark Tank and as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks. He's controversial in the crypto space. In 2017, he said “nobody knows when it will burst" calling Bitcoin a bubble.

In 2019, he expressed doubts about whether it's a real currency yet still accepted it for ticket purchases.

Nowdays, he claims to be a bull. He said he's bullish on Ethereum's ability to overtake Bitcoin (aka "The Flippening") and was also riding the Gamestop/Robinhood craze.

In 2021, he joined the hype train for the memecoin dogecoin and allowed people to pay for Maverick's merchandise with Doge.

One thing's for sure, Ethereum and Mark Cuban both have one thing in common: Flipping.. Mark on his opinion of crypto and Ethereum's hopes of flipping Btc.

Those are just some of the many celebrities who have taken a ride on the crazy gains-train of crypto. Can you think of any  others we missed? Let us know!

What do you think?
